The Farm Gate on Wray Street is a laid-back cafe in the heart of Batemans Bay, offering a straightforward but satisfying coastal experience centered around fresh local produce. Tucked along Wray Street, it’s the kind of spot where locals drop by for a strong coffee and some fresh seafood, bridging casual café culture with a farmer’s market feel.

Coffee selections here – from flat whites to chai lattes – are served reliably hot and focused on quality rather than fuss. It suits those who want their morning caffeine fix alongside a casual bite rather than a slow, lingering brunch. The toasted Turkish sandwiches and nachos add a simple, hearty touch to the menu, making it a convenient stop for a quick, unfussy lunch or snack.

Seafood lovers will appreciate the oysters and prawns, which come fresh from nearby farms, giving the place a genuinely local edge. The seafood is the highlight — notably sweet, fresh, and paired with unique touches like wasabi vinegar for dipping, which gives it a subtle kick. This focus on freshness draws regulars who want something authentic to the region’s coastal produce.

The atmosphere is relaxed and practical rather than polished. During warmer months, the presence of flies can be a minor drawback, reflecting its farm-adjacent nature more than a meticulous café setting. The space also caters well to families, with a few toys around to keep kids entertained, making it a low-key, friendly spot for casual outings with little ones.

Parking can be a bit tight out front, suggesting that visiting during less busy times or opting for a weekday morning might offer a more leisurely experience. The service tends to be quick and straightforward, typical of a local place that knows its regulars and values efficiency.

In summary, The Farm Gate is best for those looking for fresh, locally sourced seafood with a solid coffee on the side, in a casual, no-fuss setting. It fits well into Batemans Bay’s coastal vibe and serves those who appreciate a practical yet tasty local stop rather than a trendy or highly styled café experience.

Great little spot for same fresh oysters and prawns straight from the farm. However in the warmer months the flies can get very annoying…

Great place for fresh seafood. They've got a few toys for the kids to play with too. We've been multiple times. It never disappoints.

A must visit if at Batemans. Was a bit disappointed went there on day 1 at appx 12pm and got super fresh oysters!!! Went there on day 2 at 10am and was given stale Oysters guess these were the ones that did not sell the previous day ....hence have a look at the tray and if you see its yellowish avoid!! But the cafe and venue were beautiful!
